We started breeding British White Cattle purely by accident… when my husband Phil and I purchased small acreage in Central Texas, we needed cattle to keep our agricultural exemption. We met an old gentleman who had a purebred British White bull along with some black angus cows and the rest is history! We purchased a 50% British White/angus heifer from him, which was the beginning of Twin Creeks British Whites. We finally acquired a purebred cow in 2003, who produced our herd bull, Uncle Beau. Uncle Beau is a rather large British White bull (weighs in at 2,300 lbs.), and has thrown classically marked British White calves. Uncle Beau, regrettably, was sold in August of 2009 as we want to introduce some new bloodlines into our herd (although my husband wasn't totally on board and didn’t really want to part with him, because they were big buddies).
The British Whites have provided us quite the learning experience, having only had experience with horses in my younger days, and we have depended on the patience and kindness of our vet, Doc Holmstrom from Hutto, Texas, Jimmie West and Morris Halliburton, to answer questions or offer suggestions on dealing with cattle issues (many thanks to all). I never thought we’d be raising cattle and enjoying it. The British Whites were a perfect choice for us, as they are easy to handle due to their gentle nature, ease of birth and milkiness… and the fact that British White meat is lean, yet marbleized, and produces one of the best steaks you’ll ever eat (contrary to what the black cow association has led the general public to believe). When the pastures are poor and the grass is scarce, our British Whites somehow manage to still keep their weight up, supplementing their diet by browsing on the treed creekline that runs through our property… never ceases to amaze me.

When we’re not working our day jobs to feed our British Whites, we enjoy family and our dogs, Gretta Gunzel von Sniffer, a weimaraner, and Sarah, a black lab that we adopted from an animal rescue group.
At Thanksgiving each year, we have a get together that spans three days, with lots of food, catching up and a chance for the younger generation to entertain themselves the old fashioned way…
...climbing on and falling off the hay bales, bottle feeding calves, driving the tractor, or riding in the bucket of the front end loader (my cousin Brian, who is a thirty something child himself, tries to get them as close to the ground as possible, with the boys squealing with delight at the prospect of landing in a cow patty!)
Reminds me of how it was when we were kids, entertaining ourselves without the aid of tv or computers, fascinated by the animals, bugs, and other things nature had to offer. Our hay bales were a little worse for the wear, but it was all worth it… and the cows had no complaints, since they were fed all the loose hay by the boys. It's refreshing to see that kids who are hooked on technology can still entertain themselves in mundane ways… as we did in our younger days.

You'll find Jimmie West’s British White website and the British White Cattle Association of America’s website listed on our links page. Both these sites will provide you with a wealth of information on the British White breed. We hope that these resources will provide you with information to convince you too, that British White cattle are the breed for you! We don’t think that you’ll regret it!
